Janet draws high energy, soul with Jerkins

Janet Jackson's anticipated follow-up to "Discipline" will likely be a mixture of high energy, yet soulful records according to hit making producer Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins.

Speaking with Singersroom recently, Jerkins confirmed that he has been working on her next album with a variety of sounds in mind.

"You know old school Janet is what we as fans knew her as, so we’re really trying to target that sound while still trying to mix it in with something new; be able to touch it [with] different world types of sound like: Brazilian music, Latin music, you know just different sounds from around the world; there’s one [record] that’s African inspired," says Jerkins.

News of Jackson's next album follows a surprising split from Def Jam after the release of "Discipline" in 2008. While Jackson has been without a label home since, but rumored to be in talks with Live Nation, she has released new music -- namely the song "Make Me".

Leading a collection of hits, titled "Number Ones," "Make Me" was released in September, shortly after an appearance and tribute to late brother and fellow entertainer, Michael Jackson.

Even with Michael's death and the filming of the Tyler Perry helmed sequel to 'Why Did I Get Married?', titled "Why Did I Get Married Too?," Jerkins says Jackson's new music will be high energy.

"Just real high energy for Janet, some soul…it’s a real tight project."
